A passion for books

Bookworks is a classic Hong Kong story where East and West meet, mingle and mix. The founder Louise Garnaut, an Australian, came to Hong Kong via a four year stay in Italy where she studied and then worked in the book and paper restoration field.

Louise set up Bookworks in 1991 in Hong Kong to teach bookbinding classes. She then discovered the beauty, richness and variety of Asian fabrics and started to incorporate them into her binding work. Bookworks began to specialize in custom made photo albums and then developed it’s own range of ready made albums and books using silk brocades and other fabrics. We have been selling our range in Hong Kong, Asia, the US and Europe since 1998.

Louise’s conservation and restoration background guides all choices of materials and binding methods to ensure that your album and book will become a cherished heirloom. These principles ensure that all of our products meet the most demanding quality standards.

All of our albums and books are made in Hong Kong by skilled artisans either at our own workshop or at our partner workshops. These workshops are long established Hong Kong based family enterprises with many years of binding experience behind them to ensure that our high standards of workmanship are maintained and all items are made up to our exact specifications and standards using our own materials.
